Competition Dorfcamus Merzen. In collaboration with Altorfer Bon Architekten and Atelier le balto Landschaftsarchitektur.
The project generates an appropriate and compact scale at the center of the village, which is identity-forming and blends well with the landscape. The balanced arrangement of the volumes ensures optimal visual transparency, providing an overview of the entire area while offering high-quality and diverse outdoor spaces throughout the entire area.
The new campus area is based on the concept of strong social networking. It offers a wide range of activities for all generations and sees itself as a place for culture, exchange, and recreation. The Repair Café in the existing caretaker's house is a symbol of inclusion for all village residents.
The architecture is designed with consideration for its interaction with the outdoor space, and the organization of the outdoor areas ensures a clear address and orientation to the main entrance. All classrooms have access to the covered walkways, which lead directly to the outdoor areas. The centerpiece of the outdoor spaces is a large semicircular space that defines the concept of the "active break."
The building is designed as a simple wooden structure, playfully referencing the local and vernacular repertoire of roof forms. The wooden construction creates a contemporary contrast to the solid brick buildings of the village and sets an example for the future of sustainable construction. The construction method allows the sustainable building material to be experienced both inside and outside. The presented balconies running around the facades serve as a delicate filter between the public area and the inner world.
