A home for three.
The 65m2 apartment needed refurbishment all around. Not only was the flat generally in poor condition, but the layout left much to be desired.
Considering the current housing shortage in Berlin, the owner was keen to customize the property to fit a small family.
The kitchen was relocated into the living room thus gaining a second bedroom.
Every recess was wisely used to fit built in cabinetry. With everything packed away, even a small flat of 65m² can be flexibly used by a family of three.
By using pine plywood as the only material for floors and built in furniture, we made the apartment feel more spacious and tidy. The floors and over-expressed skirting boards were lacquered, everything above this datum line stained white. The contrast between the two finishes helps break up the height of the small rooms and the warm and contrasting grain gives character.
